The Bible’s final book, Revelation, is filled with vivid symbols and powerful imagery. John, that old apocalyptic pastor, cuts through the malaise of our daily information scroll to show us the reality of God breaking into our world.
Poetic passages in the Bible can be frustrating. Poetry rewards the patient & attentive. Poetry frustrates the pragmatic & hurried. Poetry is sweet to those who find God beautiful. Poetry is frustrating to those who find God useful.
On Christmas Eve, as we reflected on the birth of Christ and all it means for us, we turned to a piece of poetry in the twelfth chapter of Revelation. There we found a woman, a dragon, and a baby.
Listen here, and see what we saw. (It’s graciously brief.)
Merry Christmas!
