25 Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, “Is not this the man whom they seek to kill? 26 And here he is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ? 27 But we know where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, no one will know where he comes from.” 28 So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I come from. But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and him you do not know. 29 I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.” 30 So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31 Yet many of the people believed in him. They said, “When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?”
John 7:25-31
Jesus is preaching, and people are believing. Will the Messiah do more than this? Jesus is special. He checks every box. He’s preaching, and y’all could go arrest him, but you don’t. Why not?
Because Jesus is in control of the situation. He can’t be taken because it’s not time for him to be taken. He is and you are indestructible until you’ve accomplished God’s will for your life.
Jesus is not reacting to things outside of him; Jesus is leading. Each step is a step of obedience. Each step is a step of faith. Each step is ordered by the Spirit.
Jesus is led by the will of the Father. His understanding of God’s plan for the world orders everything he does. It is imperative that we think theologically–that our understanding of God’s plan for our lives and the world around us guides the way we engage the world. Simply: How does our knowledge of God impact the way we think, live, and love?
Most people do not think this way. Tragically, you could argue, that most Christians do not think or live this way.
Are you reacting to things that happen to you, or are you proactively walking by faith? Are you floating through life, or are you prioritizing your spiritual walk? Can I humbly and graciously push a little here? I think, understandably, we’re just reacting. How can you look at your life and prioritize the things of God?
To walk by faith, we need to think rightly of the one in whom we have placed our faith.
